The weekend.

Saturday was cold so I didn't ride. Joanne took me out for my birthday dinner to the Mandarin for a great Chinese buffet dinner. I love Chinese!! I pigged out on crab legs, prime rib roast, spare ribs, chicken, fish, oh ya, and some rice and veggies. Then I went up for seconds! : )

Sunday, I went out biking with some members of my tri club Michelle Ted, Dave, and Leslie. We rode out to Wasaga beach and back and then some for a total around 100km. It was a good ride and weather was great but we did have cool winds. I felt great after my ride. When I got home I started dinner Mexican style, Taco's!!

New car is here!

I went to the dealer today after training to make sure they were getting the right car ready for Joane to pick up, because there were 2 cobalts there that I looked at, one of which Joanne and I looked at over the weekend.

Well guess what? the car I picked out for Joanne wasn't good enough for her! When she went to do the paper work yesterday and test drive the car, (without telling me,) she ordered the other cobalt we saw over the weekend. The one with more mileage and more scratches on it, the one that the dealer was trying to push on me, but after looking over and assessing both cars I decided the one I like and picked was better! and had a lot less mileage on it!

So when I went to see the salesman today I checked out the sales lot where the cars were and low and behold the car I picked was there, and the one I didn't want was gone. So I asked the salesman if he go the right car? That's when he told me Joanne decided on the other car, you know? the one with more mileage and scratches??

Well I called her up on it and she tells me no! the other one has more scratches, that she and the dealer checked them out and agreed the one she picked is better, ( remember the dealer was trying to push that car on me yesterday??)

Anyway Joanne picked up her car and she is happy with it, so congrats.

Car Shopping for under $11,000

Last weekend Joanne and i went to a car dealer to check out some car deals being offered. Her car, a 97' Honda Accord is dieing a slow death so rather putting in buckets of money to fix it up Joanne and the kids have been bugging me to buy a new car. So we looked and saw some good deals with used 2007 and 2008 GM G5's and Cobalt's. She like the cobalt best in charcoal gray but it had to have all the bells and whistles, not the standard cobalt. we found a couple Lt's with the bells and whistles she was looking for and ooo'd and aaa'd over it, figuring out if we can afford to buy it. We then left the dealer to think on it.

Today after being hounded daily about the car she wanted, I went to the car dealer, looked for a honest looking used car salesman, ; ) When I found one, I showed him the used car I wanted, a charcoal gray 2008 Cobalt LT which only has 37,000km on it. Then I told him to work up the papers so we can buy the car.

I called Joanne from the dealer to tell her, OK we will get the car you wanted, but you have to come down after work today to make the deal on the car. She was happy. I then went to work.

Joanne went down after her work to meet up with the sales man who had all the paper work ready and car waiting for her out front for her to test drive. Then after she got the financial approval cleared, she signed all the papers for a dun deal! which includes trading in her Honda and will pick up the new used 2008 Cobalt LT tomorrow after work. ..... I think she is happy! : )

I don't feel like fifty???

Today I turned fifty years old. I woke up this morning, went down stairs to the kitchen to find some cards and presents left on the kitchen table. But first i grab a cup of coffee already brewing and waiting for me, priorities first!! I go to the fridge to grab the milk and I see a cake that says happy 50th birthday on it. I grab the milk and pour it into my cup with some sugar. Siiiiiip ahhhh!!! that's better. Ok, now I go check out my cards and presents left by my family. ....Thank you family, much appreciated, and the cake is good! : )

Next I get ready to go to the rec center. I ran on the treadmill and did some diving. I was thinking of doing 50 swim bike and run today to celebrate my 50th, but I didn't, I'm getting to old.

When i got down to the pool for diving I met up with some potential new divers Chris and Richard a couple of nice young guys who are very eager to learn and compete in diving, possible becoming members of my dive club when i open it. I worked with them a bit today on there form, as well as doing my own dive practice.

The kempenfelt Tri club social was fun Saturday night. It's always nice to see everyone and talk shop. The food was great with everyone bringing something for the pot luck.

Sunday we had another social to go to, down in Markham at my brother in-laws. Just a little family gathering with Joanne's side of the family to memorialize her oldest sister Sandra who did last year at this time, plus it's the first time since the funeral that we all have got together since last year. It was fun and again good food.

Wasaga beach and back

Today I went out with Leslie and rode to Wasaga beach and back for a nice easy 3hour ride. Leslie is in training for her first 70.3 race doing the Disney 70.3 in May. Today's ride was suppose to be a group ride with others who will be doing Disney too, but the the weather was threatening and the others didn't want to take the chance of getting caught in a t-storm. But if they listened to me, they would have had a great ride today like Leslie and I did! :p :p :p

The morning looked threatening, and at the start there was a little thunder on the horizon, but as I predicted it was only passing by, that and I watched the weather forecast which predicted the same ;) Leslie and I started out with most of the ride to Wasaga being clear sailing with the wind on our backs. The clouds were breaking up with sun was peeking through the clouds soon as we started. When we got to Wasaga beach we stopped for a break to take in some nourishment and adjust our crotch chamois (Leslie had a new tri suit and couldn't get the Velcro chamois to sit right. lol) Then it was back for the ride home. The ride home was looking good until we started heading south and the winds were on us. A heavy cross wind in our faces, but we dreaded on crusing at around 24kph in spots, then hitting a few ( 3 ) steep hills slowing us down and taxing our legs. We finally got back in around 3 hours of riding time, not bad for the first time out.

I predict a great ride for leslie in Disney, she is a strong biker.

Tonight is our Tri clubs social, more on that later. time for more hydration.

CN Tower stair climb

It was a Good day for Climbing stairs.

Joanne, Victoria and I got up first thing in the morning to drive down to Toronto leaving home at 4:30am. When we got to the registration area there already was a long line up. It took about 45 min for me to register and get my time card and wrist band so I can start of my climb up the stairs.

Once registered we had to go through security with metal detectors and explosive detectors, then it was of to the next line to wait our turn to go up the stairs. At the start I punched my time card and off I went. I didn't go to fast but at the same time I didn't go slow. I kept a steady pace most of the way, huffing and puffing, talk about a cardio workout. At level 60 of 140 I think? I had to stop for a breather and stretch to catch my breath and get my heart rate down, at most I stopped about 15 seconds, then off I went again. My legs were holding up and as I felt the burn in my quads I eased up again to relax my legs, all the time still pushing upward. in all I stopped about 3 times to catch my breath and by the time I got to the top my throat was so dry I couldn't swallow.

I made it to the top, 1776 steps in 19:29 then another 4 flites of steps to come out here at the observation deck.

I was surprised with my time, because half way through the climb I really didn't think I would make it up, and thought I would have to walk the rest of the way to finish with a slow time, not that I was racing? I just wanted to give a good effort to make it to the top in a reasonable time, so I just dug down and kept going, and thinking at the same time my heart would explode at any second....The average times to climb I was told is between 25 and 45 min, so I think I did well.

Today I'm surprised because after all the burn in my quads in the stair climb yesterday I'm not at all sore and plan on doing a 10km run today.... I guess all this base training is working for me.
