Respect at the workplace

No workouts today. I had a workshop to go to today starting at noon, so I didn't have time to go to the rec center for my usual run and dive practice. booooo

The workshop was on respect at the workplace, very boring. everything we covered i already incorporate in my daily routines at work and I get along with everyone with little or no conflicts. But the board I work for has lots of problems with inter workplace conflicts between co-workers within the plant department (Hot head custodians) most of which are ethnic in back ground and don't communicate well with others. So human resources felt the need to try to teach us all how to co-operate in the workplace with proper communication through this workshop on respecting our workers and workplace. The best part was that they served lunch, a nice buffet of leaf and pasta salads, coleslaw, rice, buns and cold cuts, pop, water and coffee. Then afterwards I have to go back to work to finish out my shift. At least I get to go home early.

Tomorrow I'm hoping to get a run in after my swim, but I hear it's suppose to rain, so maybe not?

What !!

I get woken up at 8:30am this morning and it's Victoria telling me that Melissa is on the phone, so I take the call all groggy and say; What! She tells me the car is stuck on some tree shrubs or something going into work, I say; WHAT? So I tell her I'll be right out.

She works in the mall down the street not far from home. I get to the mall and drive where I think she is, but I don't see her or the Purple Neon? I drive around the mall parking lot and back, then around the front and I see her and the car. WHAT! or more like WTF!! The car is parked on top of the flower bed of the mall about 20 feet from the road on the corner as you would normally drive into the mall parking lot and stuck on top of the shrubs. I just look at her and the car and shake my head, then ask how the hell did you end up her? She said the window was fogged up with frost inside the windshield and she couldn't see. I say; WHAT! .. How can you drive like that and then totally go off the road like that? Again I shake my head.

There were a couple of security guys there trying to help her before I got there, but couldn't move the car. So I tell them I'll maneuver my car around back and try to push her through and over the shrubs. I get behind and push with my car and it only moved a bit as Melissa tried to drive it out at the same time. I maneuver my car a bit and try again, and still not going and the tires on mine and Melissa car are spinning as we try to move it forward. In the mean time as I was pushing her car I end up breaking my new IMAZ plate cover that my friend from Arizona sent me to replace my old plate cover that broke when a sheet of drywall came flying up and across the hwy hitting my front end of the car last fall.

Well now My blood is boiling and I back my car off and get out. I get behind Melissa's car and start lifting and pushing it forward while telling Melissa to drive forward. I lifted so hard the the back bumper was twisting in my hand as I was lifting and bouncing the car forward to get it over the shrubs to get it out. As I'm lifting and pushing the car started moving forward as Melissa is giving it gas to move it forward. I gave one last hard lift and push and it was out!! Melissa parked the car and I drove my car back around off the flower bed to meet up with her. I shake my head again, and say how could you drive like that? if you can't see the road to make a turn into the mall, what would happen if there was a pedestrian on the side walk? You could have killed someone!! Then told her just go in to work.....Kids!

I drive back home still shaking my head.....and quickly poured a needed coffee.

Todays workout.....

My calf is healing up nicely,( moooo) So after my coffee I went to the rec center to try some running and diving. I ran 30 min on the treadmill and all was well, then went down to the pool and did some diving, i took it slow at first testing the waters so to speak, and my calf was doing ok, so i ran through my list of dives on the one and three meter boards.

Darbaround Marathon des Sables

Gator Girl ( Kerri Elfvin ) Is a friend of mine who I met on line at Mile 141 chat pages and then at Ironman Arizona in 2005 and have kept in contact over the years. She is doing Darbaround Marathon des Sables which is a 5 day race over the Sahara dessert in stages.

Definition of the race is...
The 24th MARATHON DES SABLES is a foot race, with several heats, free style, and with food self sufficiency over a distance of about 230 Km. Each participant must carry his/her own backpack containing food, sleeping gear and other material.

You can check out all the details here.....http://www.darbaroud.com/index_uk.php

Well the race was suppose to start today but the first stage got canceled because of weather?? Who would have thunk they would have rain storms in the Sahara dessert??

Anyway, I wished Kerri well and am tracking her daily as she attempts the grueling hike over the Sahara! Go! Gator Girl GO!!

This is me with Kerri at Florida Ironman /06 when I went down to voly.

Here are some pictures of the Sahara washout in Darbaround

Cleaning The Basement To Make A Room

Yesterday was a busy day! I spent most of the day down in the basement clearing out junk so I can start building a bedroom down there for Chris and his girlfriend to live.

Some time this week I will buy the lumber and supplies and start building. The room will be approx. 20'x 15' plenty of room for them to live comfortably. I can't believe all the junk that was down there.

Halfway through cleaning I needed a break, and the weather was so nice with the temp around 10C and sunny, So I went for a quick bike ride. I finished cleaning after my ride, now all I have to do Is get my building supplies and get to work!

This is the area for the bedroom I will build.

Reverse view.
I'll run one wall alone the side of the stairs and across the room where the basement wall juts out, then back down and around. The door to enter the room will be on this side of the stairs.

This is what's on the other side of my basement looks like now. We will be cleaning that up this week to, so everything is organized, and throw out the junk we've accumulated over the years. My garage is already half full from the junk we took up from the other side. Then when everything is cleaned up of the junk and organized, I will then take most of the junk from the garage to the dump, and keep the good junk that will be sold in a garage sale we will have next month.
