Nice training day

I had a good training day today, well it wasn't really a hard training day more like a tour? I went to meet my running friends this morning at 9am for our weekly bike ride. and we ventured off for a 60 km ride. I say touring ride because we only averaged 24km/hr on the day, which isn't bad to do once in a while and was a lot of fun.

On route at one of our intersections out of town we run into another rider. Who it it? none other then my wife Joanne! - Over the summer I have asked her to join this group I've been riding with because they are a good group who don't go to fast. At times the faster riders sprint out a few k's but then wait on the rest, yada yada yada.

Well Joanne says no she's not up to the distance! Well I keep telling her you have to do it!... to be able to do it! if that makes sense? Anyway we meet up with her and I ask her to join us and meet my friends she has never met, but only hear of. So she joined us.

Long story short she did the distance with us, had a good time and has gained confidence in her riding to go long. -She is no longer a 50km virgin!! as one of the riders voiced to her delight! She ended up doing 65km with us in total and was very proud of her achievement, as I was! my total for the day was 75km. :)

On our "tour" we ended up going to the Military base in Angus, a town 30km west of Barrie, which was cool. We rode through the camp right up to the air strip seeing all the facility along the way including old aircraft, tanks, howitzers etc. I wish I had my camera with me! but I didn't.

After our ride Joanne took a shower then took a nap, hee hee hee! I went for a hot tub and did some sunning before going out to get my hair cut.

Speaking of which!!!!.........

WHAT HAPPENED TO MY HAIR!!!

Another nice day

After work I raced home to get to the lake to swim. What's the use in racing home? It took me 1 1/2 hours to drive home because of all the rush hour traffic, another reason why I hate working days.

Thursday was another perfect sunny warm day with temps at 25C no humidity and little wind. Where was this weather all summer?? When I got to the beach all my friends where done swimming or just finishing there swim. I then made my plunge in the cool water and did my 1000m swim. When I finished my swim it was starting to get dark out as the sun was setting. I can't believe how soon it's starting to get dark now.

Today I'm going into work early so I can leave early to beat the heavy long weekend traffic. This being the start of the long weekend the hwy I take will be jammed packed with cars heading north to there cottages or camping, and I don't want to get caught up in it. One year it took me 2 1/2 hours to drive home on a Friday long weekend, so I'll be heading home around noon and expect to take at least 1 1/2 hours to get home.

I will be heading down to the lake one last time tonight for my final swim in the lake for this year, I think? Unless the weather keeps up and the water temps stay warm enough? I guess I could swim in the mornings down at the lake as I go back to my afternoon shift next week. But most likely I will take advantage of the warm weather biking now that I will have time in the mornings before I go into work, and do so until it gets to cold to bike outside anymore, which won't be long now.

Final week before school starts.

Again a busy week catering to the teachers. They all want to stay late. I want to go home so I can get a little training in. By the time I get home it's to late to ride as it's getting dark. But at least on Monday I was able to leave work early enough to go meet some friends for a swim in the lake....Yesterday I got home to late so I did nothing. Today I kicked the teachers out of school so I could leave by 5pm today so I could get home in time to swim in the lake before dark.

To my surprise I was the only one swimming down by the lake? and today of all days was one of the nicest days all summer. 25C no wind, no humidity and not a cloud in the sky. That's OK by me! I had the whole beach to myself! hee hee hee.

Tomorrow I have a health and safety and WHIMIS ( workplace hazardous material information system) refresher course meeting which runs from 12:30 to 4pm then I'll have to head back to my school to close it so I doubt I'll be back in time to do any swim or bike. If I'm up to it I may run.

Trying to watch Ironman

I spent most of the day Sunday trying to watch on line both Ironman Louisville and Ironman Canada. I have some friends in both races and I like to follow their progress during the day. I have to say, this time the Ironman site did a awful job of streaming the on line feed. The live feed was going off and on all day and losing the feed altogether at times. I was very disappointed.

A couple of my friends I was following yesterday were Cathy and Scott Bermon. Both are were doing IMCanada. Scott is an Awesome triathlete and proved it yesterday with his finish of 9:56:17 to place him 10Th in his 35-39 age group and 60Th overall. Here's hoping you get your Kona slot. Cathy also had a good race finishing in 15:29:39 Congrats to both of them for having great races.

Here I am with Cathy and Scott at the Muskoka chase earlier this year in June.

I also have to say congrats to each of my other friends who finished there races. Joanne Merkey, Shawn Patton, Kevin white, who did IMC and Leslie McLeod who did IMLou.

Congrats to you all.
