Close call on my drive home.

I almost hit a deer!!...

On my way home from work last night driving along hwy 27 northbound, which is a 2 lane county hwy, on route to pick up the major 400 hwy North which takes me home up to Barrie. I had my cruise control on, set for 90km as usual along this stretch of hwy 27. It's dark out as it was overcast and drizzling rain. There is no one else on the road except for a set of car lights about a 1km behind me driving the same route. It's pitch black out and with no on coming traffic made it seem darker. All I see ahead of me is my car light shining out onto the road ahead of me as I drive and nothing beyond but blackness.

As I was driving along, out of the pitch dark night walks a buck deer right in front of me, just at the distance where my head light crest with the darkness, shining on the road about 30 -40 feet in front of my car. I instinctively slam on my brakes to avoid hitting it. At the same time I'm skidding I pull the wheel a little to the right to avoid hitting him directly. And at the same time I'm skidding to a stop I'm saying to myself, ( Deer this is your lucky day! there is no way I'll be hitting you!! )

I come to a full stop quickly. I was amazed how my car gripped the road because of the slick road from the drizzle rain coming down. I thought I might have to veer into the ditch to avoid impact with the deer, but my new red cobalt handled and stopped very nicely, gripping the wet road skidding and coming to a quick stop right in front of him with him standing only 5 feet in front of my car when I stopped.

He then meanders on across the hwy looking at my car and me as I roll forward from my full stop to drive around him and his back side. I then started laughing to myself as I drove off because the damn deer as he was crossing the road looking at my car didn't seem fazed in the least! and just took his time walking across the road like he knew he wouldn't be hit.

All I can say is that Damn deer is lucky I was driving. :)

Perfect weather today, good ride!

So much for weather reports!?!

WTF!! This morning was perfect! Sunny, little wind and not a cloud in the sky! So I got on my horse ( bike) and rode while I could!! yeeee haaaa! I had a great ride today, although it was a little cool for me at 10C. but it warmed up to 15C by the time I finished my ride.

After my ride I did a short 1.2k brick run. To bad the weather won't stay like this longer then today, as they are calling for cooler temps With some rain the rest of the week, but I took advantage of it while I could. :)

Here is a youtube clip from Amanda Lovato of some of the "what's going on's" of the underwear run in Kona today, too funny! check it out. lol...

Too Windy to train.

I was off to a good start this week running 5k both Monday and Tuesday, but today training was halted because of high winds, and I mean HIGH WINDS, Gusts up to 90k. Just walking to my car in my driveway this morning was difficult and I was being blown over, so needless to say I wasn't biking today.

The weather outlook isn't very favorable in the near future with more rain and windy days, I might be able to get in one bike ride this week and hopefully get in two more runs.

This weekend is Thanksgiving weekend! and I give thanks that the Kona world championships are on Saturday which I will be logging on http://ironman.com/ to watch live on line all day starting around 11:00 am, WooT.

Also Saturday I will be putting a new carpet down that I bought for the basement bedroom. The one I had put down was old and smelly that we have been using in the basement for years and when our cat was sick before dieing, she had peed all around it, so I lifted it and threw it out.

The carpet I bought is a remnant carpet ( end of the roll carpet ) of 12 x 24 that I picked up cheap at a local flooring and carpet store. My basement bedroom is only 19 x 10 1/2 so there will be a lot of extra carpet left over that I can use as runners up the basement stairs or something? My plan is gluing the carpet down to the concrete floor in the bedroom, as being the cheapest way of installing it. Then when that's done, I will continue on with putting up more new walls in the next faze of my basement Reno, ( the rec room ). The work never end!

New Old Reno Project

I started up my next reno project down in the basement with starting on the recreation room area. I won't complete this project this year as I don't have the money to finish it. I'm just using up the rest of my lumber to build up my walls. Then when I get some money I'll finish it up. The first step is to seal the floor Victoria helped out by painting the floor with the sealer.

I did a couple of runs over the weekend in between the rain drops, I took a few pictures of the nice rainbow after one of our down pours.

Weekly totals.......
Run...15k
Bike...30km
