Fall is in the air

Another beautiful sunny but cool day. Fall is definitely in the air. I went out this morning for my bike ride in the chilly air, the temp was reading 10C when I left at 10:30am. I had to even wear a long sleeve shirt. My wife told me when she got up this morning it was 3C outside. Brrrrrrr.

My plan was to go 3hours out to Wasaga beach and back, But when I reached the point of no return where I can either cut back home for a 30km ride or go on to Wasaga Beach for the full ride out and back. I opted for making the right hand turn for a 30km ride instead, because it was chilly and my knees where getting cold.

When i got back home I asked Joanne if she was going for a ride, and she was, so I went back out with here for another 20km ride.

Later tonight Is party night!! Woo Hoo! Were going out to a friends for a 80s surprise birthday party!! should be fun! Yes I'll spoil my diet tonight and have a few beers, then I'll get back on my diet Sunday. :)

This weeks totals....

Swim......0000 Lake is to cold amd my rec pass has expired. I'll go into detail about that later.

Bike ....120km

Run .... 7km.

-Ok about my rec pass.....

My " family " rec pass expired in June and I didn't renew it over the summer becuse I don't normally go to the rec center during the summer because I spend most of my time outside riding or swiming in the lake and ruinning outside. Although this summer was a bust because of my work schedule and the lousy weather! and nobody else was using it thoughout the year, so I cancled it.

Anyway, My wife decided she wanted to start up training now that our "Family" rec pass was canceled!?! So she went out and got herself a single fitness pass for 6 months! not thinking I was going to start up my training at the rec center come Sept??

So basically I'm screwed for training at the rec center until her pass expires at the end of DEC!! Because we can't afford and I won't Pay for a single pass for 3 months which would cost about $20 less then a family pass for the two of us over the same three months.

In other words Come January when I buy the Family pass for which everyone in my family can use ( four of us ) except only Joanne and I will use, it will cost us $600 for the year, ( we have to buy the pass as a yearly pass) where as if Joanne and I where to buy two single rec passes at $130 per pass for 3 monts, times 2 for her and I, and pay it 4 times over the year? it would cost us $1025.00 for the year!

So you see my dilemma! It looks like I'll have to either break down and by my 3 month pass until Jan and eat the loss. or pay as I go for swims and not feel the pinch as much, but $5 per swim is still expensive! and I can run on my treadmill and bike on my trainer in my basement when the cold and snow comes. Hmmmmm!

Willem Boon from the Netherlands

My friend Willem from the Netherlands sent me this picture of him racing in an Olympic race in his home town last weekend. He pointed out how everyone is really tall!...or maybe he is short? lol. Willem is gearing up to do the 70.3 world championships in Clearwater Florida come November 14Th. He may be short, but his is definitely an Iron machine!

Muskoka 70.3 2009 (Pictures)

I've been trying to upload a short video clip, but for some reason it's not uploading and would error out? I've produced three different versions, each different in length, but it still errors out? and on the fourth try I was able to upload another with inferior picture quality, but it's missing the last 2 minutes or so of the end. Eventually I'll get it right and will post the video. For now, here are some pictures I took from Sunday's Muskoka 70.3 race day. Again I'm sorry the pictures are in reverse order.

Here I am with Lisa Bentley after she finished her race.

TATHAM, Charles Matheson (Matt)November 21, 1957 – September 12, 2009

Suddenly upon completion of the Wasaga Beach triathalon. Aged 51 years. Born in Woodstock, Ontario and a graduate of Woodstock Collegiate Institute, Matt worked in a bakery part time during high school, played football and went to the Ontario finals in wrestling. He graduated from the University of Guelph with a degree in Food Science and started his career at Marks and Spencer with responsibility for cakes and cookies.

He prospered over the next 25 years to become one of the most respected professionals in the bakery business in North America and was enjoying great success as Business Manager at Nealanders International Inc. Matt was a Masters World Champion triathlete who successfully defended his title in Copenhagen this year.

He much enjoyed his running club, triathlons, trail running and cycling. Matt was an ardent gardener and horticultural society award winner, who grew his own hops to brew his own beer. His extensive world travels included two years on a bicycle in Europe and Asia, five months on a kibbutz in Israel, as well as trips to Iceland, India, Machu Picchu, and the Pacific Coast Trail.

He also enjoyed an annual winter ski trip with his brothers that over the years covered most of the best ski destinations in western Canada. A skilled photographer, his other hobbies included audio recording, composing and performing his own music, stamp collecting, and making, flying and fighting kites.

Matt lived each and every day to the fullest. His positive nature and upbeat attitude as a self described ''student of life'' was truly inspirational to everyone who knew him.
He is survived by his companion of 24 years, John LaRocque and his parents, Sid and Marnie Tatham of Woodstock. He will be sorely missed by his 5 siblings: Robin, Paul (Nancy), Bill (Janna), Mary Ellen Rennie (Dan), and Ian (Edie) as well as his 12 nieces and nephews.

A service to celebrate his life will be held Saturday, September 19, 2009 at 1:00 p.m. with visitation on Friday September 18, from 6 to 8 p.m. as well as 1 hour prior to the service at the Morley Bedford Funeral Home, 159 Eglinton Avenue West, Toronto, 416 489-8733. Muskoka 70.3

Today at the Muskoka 70.3 in Huntsville. Lisa Bentley remembered me!! :) and as usual, she was very cordial and friendly.

I have a good day up in Huntsville with friends and cheering friends.....
I'll have a report on my day, and more pictures later after I sift through them. I shot over 500 pictures, plus did about a half hour of video which I'll make a short clip to view when I get some time.
Don't I look good with Lisa!!! :)
