Last day of camp and computers.

Finally! Today is the last day of Summer camp at my school, yeah!!

The best thing about this is all the equipment and computers, games and everything that was used in the summer camp go up for sale. So I'm picking up 2 laptops and 1 desktop computer for cheap. All the computers are new in the box at the start of summer camp. There are 2 brand types, Toshiba and Compaq.

Since I work at the school I get first choice and priority pricing for anything they are selling off. and I'm getting a really good deal on these computers, about $150.00 off the retail price and no tax. One of the laptops is for my brother and the other is for me, both are the Compaq's and the desktop is also a Compaq that I'm picking up for my son Chris. Woo hoo! I can't wait for the end of the day!!

Not only that? But I get to go back to my regular morning shift next week! Although I dread getting up so early in the morning, (4:30am) at least I'll be home by 3:30pm and can get out on the bike for some missed riding over the past month.

Tomorrow will be a short ride and then my family will be off to Burlington ( about 1hr west of Toronto) for an engagement/ pool party for the afternoon into the evening.

Barrie Triathlon on Sunday

I had a good day at the Barrie Triathlon Sunday.

I got to the race site early about 6:45am got my race kit which to my surprise they didn't have a cotton race shirt? Now to be fair there were some nice tri socks instead of a shirt, apparently they opted to go without t-shirts this year? but the problem I saw with the socks and heard complaints about? was that they were one size for everyone, and feet as I know come in different sizes and shapes.? I could be wrong? but my wife's race kit had the same size sock as mine? There was also a water bottle with the Barrie logo on it as well as other things like nuts gum etc.

I have to say! One thing I look forward to when going to a race, specially a race that doesn't give finisher medals out is? I look forward to a nice souvenir t-shirt that I can wear proudly or give away to some tri friends from around the world which I have done. Tri Socks with running free written across the cuff doesn't cut it for me. If indeed they had written 2009 Barrie tri across the cuff of the sock that would have been much better.

I'm not complaining! but I guess I am? I am not the only one disappointed not getting a shirt? A few of my friends were disappointed to, as this was there first tri and wanted something to represent what they did over the course of the day as a souvenir. My wife and daughter both volunteered and were given a nice t-shirt to keep and wear during the race as all the volunteers did, and they both told me a lot of people were asking them where they got their shirts from as they were disappointed that they didn't get t-shirts this year. BTW My wife was entered in the sprint tri, but decided not to race as she didn't feel prepared, So she volunteered instead, and in doing so ended up with a Barrie tri t-shirt anyway! ;)

Anyways, maybe next year they will have shirts for everyone if enough people voice there opinion.

Back to Race morning. I met up with my friends doing the race as well as some of the organizers of the Barrie race who are friends and chatted with. I then wondered around and took pictures around the venue and the start of the Kids of steel race. Then I had to put away my camera to get ready for my race, as I didn't have anyone available to take shots of my race since Joanne and Victoria were volleying.

It was threatening weather out as the weatherman was calling for storms. Well it started raining during the swim and got harder as the race progressed with thunder and lightening. It reminded me of IMLP last year. Thank god I didn't have to race longer then 1:20 in it.

I had a slow 700m swim of 14min, but compensated with a pretty good 20km bike split averaging 34.5 KPH, and I was able to run my 5 K in 30 min without heal pain! Woo Hoo! That was the main thing I was concerned with and am happy about!

I finished my race in 1:19:08 placing me 23/39 in my age group, which sounds worse then it was, but they lumped my age group of 50-54 with the 45-49 yr old for one division of 45-54 and there are allot of speedy racers in both divisions, in fact the overall winner was in our division, and won over all in 58:44, that's fast!!

The race was well run as usual! I had fun. I was happy with my result. I met up with friends and had a good time, even though it was raining. Btw, The weather cleared after the race. DOH!

Niagara Falls, Birds and Butterfly's

I went to Niagara falls with Joanne and the girls. Taking 2 1/2 hours to drive down, we parked and wondered around checking out the sites of the falls. The first stop was the bird Kingdom full of free flying bird from all over the world. The first area we roamed through was with reptiles from frogs to pythons. There were different levels with rooms set up with exotic birds in big cages, but the main exhibit was an open room set up like a wild jungle where the birds would roam and fly free.

We then had lunch and took a walk along the falls for about an hour, then we walk up the main strip with all the different attractions like the Guinness world record building, haunted house, Ripley's believe it or not building, etc. they were cool to see, but very expensive to enter.

After we finished our touring of the falls we went to the Butterfly conservatory just 10 min drive down from the fall. A very beautiful arboretum and butterfly exhibit indoors full of hundreds of different free flying butterfly flying around the tropical plant life.

I'll post pictures later when I sort though them.

The room is done!!

Finally the basement bedroom is done, Yippee!!

Too bad MJ moved back to Montreal. Yes she went back this Saturday, She wasn't making any effort to look for work, sleeping in all day, staying up all night watching TV, and getting pressure from us to look for work. She wasn't feeling comfortable living here anymore and she decided to go back home and go back to school.

She made arrangements for her mother to come stay for the weekend and then take her home. MJ was all upset making the decision but It's to bad. She decided her own fate by not making an effort in looking for work expecting work to come calling on her, or fall into her lap! Well she got a rude awakening and found out the $30,000 jobs weren't knocking down her door while she slept half the day away.

Don't get me wrong I like her, she is a very nice girl, but need a good kick in the ass to get her moving.... and my son Chris isn't any better. So hopefully she and Chris will learn something from this and realized nothing comes easy! you have to work for things!!

Btw, Chris won't be moving down stairs I'll be renting the room out to someone who is willing to work for there keep.

Went out for some Water

After this morning outing I went up to Elmville for some fresh water with Joanne and Victoria, in yes my new Red car!

Elmville touts the best water in the world from there artisian well, which is free to use by anyone. Mater of fact years ago Molsons Brewery used to import this same water to make there Molson golden beer in there Molson brewery in Barrie. It is the best pure fresh cold spring water in the world!! as they tout!

The sign say's it all. The artisian well is along the side of the hwy just north of Barrie in Elmville.
Sipping a taste right out of the tap of the artisian well filling my jug to refill our water cooler at home.

Carrying the jug of water back to my Red car, with others people waiting to fill there own jugs.

Man this is heavy!
Along the way we saw some wild zebras!!...Not really! Elmville has a wildlife zoo and you can see many of the animals from the side of the hwy.
Hee haw!! lol

My day down at the waterfront

I went down to the lake this morning to swim in the across the bay race, which is a 2km swim as swimmers swim it, meaning now wetsuits. I get down there and find out it was yesterday. Arrrrg. Oh well I had my camera with me and decided to take some shots around the waterfront as Kempenfest is going on along the waterfront all weekend long and mosey on down to the running room where some friends gather every Sunday for a run. Here are some of my pictures. .......

A little smile on the beach goes a long way!

Looking out over the bay. this is the beach where we have our Barrie triathlon swim at.

The carnival is set up on the beach parking lot at the end of our beach.
Our marina along side of the beach.

Looking down one end of the beach.
Looking down the other end looking toward the marina
Some of the tents set up along the path along the beach for Kempenfest.

The spirit catcher at the foot of down town on the water front. The knives swing in the wind and they say if ever the knives spin right around it's time to head for cover, as it's either a hurricane blowing though or a tornado!! lol

This is the beach at the base of down town Barrie, nice little pond and waterfall with a gazebo.

Our local micro Brewery Robert Simpson, you can go in and get fee samples, very cool.
Another shot from the main street store front.
People gathering in the running room before there Sunday run.
Gathering around outside the running room before there run.
This group walking to warm up before starting there 23km run
And there off!! running along the waterfront path before heading up town and into the county roads for a 23km run.

So that was it this morning for me. I went back home to put the finishing touches on my basement bedroom. :)
