I DID IT! I RAN!!

I did it, I did it, I ran!!.....

I ran the treadmill for an hour, not to fast, but fast enough to test my calf out. Although my calf is still a little swollen and tight, I was able to run. I stretched out my calf for about 5 min first before getting on the treadmill, once on the treadmill I set it up the speed to do intervals of a walking pace and a easy 5.5mph jog pace. I started out alternating from walking 1 min then run 1 min, I did that for the first 10 min, then I did 1 min walking to 2 min runs for the next 10 min, then the rest of the hour after that was 1 min walk to a 4 min run, except for the tight feeling, my calf held up!! When I finished I did a little stretch then did some weights and did a full stretch after before heading down to the pool for a easy swim.

I must say my legs are tired from the run, but a good tired. The question is, how sore will my legs be tomorrow? We shall see tomorrow? It's a swim day tomorrow so that's ok.

Another Saturday

Another Saturday, another day to take it easy. I can't wait until the weather gets better and I can ride outside. I am getting real tired of all this swimming, and I miss riding. I can't stand the thought of going down to my basement to ride, or doing treadmill work at the gym. I need to feel the warmth of the outdoor air on my face as i ride or run ( in my case walk) I have to start to push though my injury's and work hard on getting my calf strong and get running and biking more.
I Just can't get motivated.

Every morning I get up, the thoughts that run through my head are, I want to quit training and quit IM's all together. Why? To start with, the first steps I take in the morning are a real pain, I mean? really painful. I can't walk, I am off work because I can't walk, So why am I trying to train for an Ironman when I hurt so much?

I work my way down stairs to get my coffee, check the web, and stretch enough to take some of the pains I have away to get my ass moving to make my way to rec center. When I get to the rec center I do my work out, the endorphins kick in and I start to feel good. When I'm done showered and changed, I waddle back to my car in pain to drive home and sit for the rest of the day as much as I can, to relieve my feet from my pain only to have to get up on them to do things around the house like cook and clean, or do errands, only getting relief when I can sit again.

So why am I training? The pain alone tires me out.

Then on line! I watch a live broadcast of Ironman at Ironmalive.com like yesterday with the Ironman New Zealand race. I stayed glued to the computer watching all day to catch the action and see who wins, and watch every ones mechanics while swimming, riding and running, mostly the pros, to learn more on what I can do to be a better athlete in each discipline.

While this does motivate me and excites me to train at the time, the next day like today? I come back to reality, Why am I training? I hurt to much? the pain isn't going away? Give me another coffee!! I want to quit.

Why don't I quit?

1) I just don't know how!

2) I love the sport to much !

3) I'm a positive thinker, not to bright, but positive!

4) I believe I can work though my pain, Oh? that goes back to being positive.

5) It's a lifestyle I want to do and live, to be healthy!!!

6) The sport of Triathlon racing is not easy! and I like the challenge!

7) Maybe I like pain?

8) I'm not to bright??

So tomorrow I'll be back at it and go to the gym to get in my first day of running since my injury to my calf and if all go well I'll do some boring biking in my basement later.....

Man I want some Hot weather to melt the snow away so I can swim, ride and run outside.

Feb Training Totals

I'll chalk this month up to being a injury recovery month. It's been four and a half weeks since I tore my calf muscle and it is slowly getting better. I didn't make my goal of 40,000m swimming for the month, this week was a bad week for me training, I just didn't have it in me to go long yesterday and today, a sure sign I'm tired and need to back off swimming a bit. I did manage 13 miles on the treadmill since my injury, all walking of course. I gave up on the Elliptical only doing it twice over the month, I found it to boring, and did more weight workouts instead, but I will try to get back on it, maybe? In the last two weeks I biked three times just easy spinning with no tension.

So my plan for March will be easing off swimming, going back to swimming Mon, weds, and Friday's, and focusing more on my biking and running taking the distances and intensity up.

Weigh-in...... Drum roll....... Still at 240lb. Egad!! I better start dieting!?!?

Been busy but no excuses.

Pardon my absence here. It's been a busy week, we took Melissa back to school. I've been mostly swimming trying to reach my 40,000m total for the month, and been doing stuff for some people.

Still doing physio for my calf, and it's feeling better. It's not as tight, but still tender specially around my ankle. I did manage another walk on the treadmill and it's coming along pretty good, I should be able to start running next week.

I'll post my monthy training totals tomorrow along with my offical weigh-in to see how I'm doing?

Saturday Rest Day

Not! ........not this Saturday anyway. I'm feeling good, throat is better but I'm sneezing up a storm. I think I have allergies? and not a cold coming on. anyhoo!!...

I went to the gym and did some weights, walked the treadmill and thought about swimming? The problem was? when finished my workout, the pool wasn't open for lane swimming yet? it didn't open until 12:30pm, and I finished my workout at 11:30am. I didn't want to wait around to swim, so I called it a day.

My calf is feeling better, but still tight and a little sore, I did a lot of stretching before and after the mill, but I am getting sharp pains down in my inside ankle. My old injury with my left foot is still hurting as I walk, I don't think it will ever be normal, so I'm just going to bare with it. I see my surgeon in 2 weeks and I will see what he has to say about it and my calf tear?

Still feeling scratchy

I'm feeling better today, but my throat is still scratchy. I don't know whether this cold is coming or going?

What a swim? I'm swimming 100s with this other lady and this English dude who's never been to our pool comes into our lane and swims in between our sets! So I swim over him because he wouldn't move aside to let us go! Then at the end of the pool while we are resting, he starts yelling at us about being courteous and shouldn't swim over other swimmers? WTF!!

I started to tell him off and said, he shouldn't be jumping in between swimmers set when coming into a lane, and he should stop to let the faster swimmers by, and he should be over in the slow lane, then I called the lifeguard to move him.

He just kept rambling to me that I should be more courteous and how we should swim in the lane etc?? Again WTF!! everyone in the lanes beside us where shaking there heads and saying WTF too? The lifeguard finally got him to move, and we finished up are sets.

Then later he comes back to my lane all friendly, tell me his name and wants to shake my hand? Then talks to me in a sort of apologetic way about how everyone should get along?? Basically I just told him if you enter a lane be aware what is going on in that lane and not to jump in on people doing sets, and be courteous yourself if a swimmer comes up behind you, to stop and let them by, that's all the rules you need to know. Duh!!

I swam 2000m 500m warmup a couple 200s rest 100's

Feeling Yucky!

I woke up today with a scratchy throat, I think I'm starting to get a cold/flu.

I pumped myself up with a bunch of Vitamin C and decongestant. I had planed on going to the gym and do some Elliptical, treadmill, weights and then swim after, but had no energy for that so I just went for a swim, I didn't much feel like swimming either. I only did 1000m easy swim and called it a day.

Hopefully tomorrow I'll feel better.

Todays training

I swam over the weekend putting in 1000m Sat and 1500m Sun.

Today is a New holiday here in Ontario, called Family day. The rec center is closed so I can't swim. I decided to go down in my basement and try some walking on the treadmil and a little biking.

I walked 4 miles at 3.5 mph and on every mile I stopped, did some stretching, and some reps with my weights, doing squats, presses and sit-ups. At the 3 mile mark of my walk I added 15 min bike spin.

I'll keep this workout going for the next few weeks, adding more walking distance each time, and maybe longer spins in between untill I can start running.
