80's Birthday party pictures

Some photos from Scott's 80's Birthday party...

A couple of the hot 80's chicks ...Looking Good!! Scott the Birthday boy in his mullet and Zoes in very retro 80's hair that had flashing glowing lights.

Pacman cake.

Another mullet wearing jock!!

More cool outfits.

80's party was a blast into the past.

It was totally fun, about 50 people showed up for my friend Scott's 80's surprise birthday party all dressed up in 80's style cloths. The music was all 80's, posters from the 80's and memorabilia all over the place! The lady's looked great dressed up with 80's style cloths and big hair. Some of the guy's look great to, with there cloths and wearing mullet wigs. hee hee. I didn't bring my camera, but I'm hoping to get some of the pictures others took at the party and I'll post them.

The only down fall of the party was when I was leaving and found that my drivers side mirror was busted!! No other damage was done??? I'm wondering how the heck can a car come so close to my car which was parked on the side of the road in front of Scott's house and clip just my mirror?? Anyhow. here is my car less the mirror.

Today I rode a 30km time trial which was hard as my legs were tired form yesterdays ride, but I managed 30kph average, which is good with the difficult hills I have to climb.

After my bike I made a big dent in cleaning my garage getting it ready to park my car in it over the winter. Yay! Woot Woot! Boo Winter!! Booooo!!

Fall is in the air

Another beautiful sunny but cool day. Fall is definitely in the air. I went out this morning for my bike ride in the chilly air, the temp was reading 10C when I left at 10:30am. I had to even wear a long sleeve shirt. My wife told me when she got up this morning it was 3C outside. Brrrrrrr.

My plan was to go 3hours out to Wasaga beach and back, But when I reached the point of no return where I can either cut back home for a 30km ride or go on to Wasaga Beach for the full ride out and back. I opted for making the right hand turn for a 30km ride instead, because it was chilly and my knees where getting cold.

When i got back home I asked Joanne if she was going for a ride, and she was, so I went back out with here for another 20km ride.

Later tonight Is party night!! Woo Hoo! Were going out to a friends for a 80s surprise birthday party!! should be fun! Yes I'll spoil my diet tonight and have a few beers, then I'll get back on my diet Sunday. :)

This weeks totals....

Swim......0000 Lake is to cold amd my rec pass has expired. I'll go into detail about that later.

Bike ....120km

Run .... 7km.

-Ok about my rec pass.....

My " family " rec pass expired in June and I didn't renew it over the summer becuse I don't normally go to the rec center during the summer because I spend most of my time outside riding or swiming in the lake and ruinning outside. Although this summer was a bust because of my work schedule and the lousy weather! and nobody else was using it thoughout the year, so I cancled it.

Anyway, My wife decided she wanted to start up training now that our "Family" rec pass was canceled!?! So she went out and got herself a single fitness pass for 6 months! not thinking I was going to start up my training at the rec center come Sept??

So basically I'm screwed for training at the rec center until her pass expires at the end of DEC!! Because we can't afford and I won't Pay for a single pass for 3 months which would cost about $20 less then a family pass for the two of us over the same three months.

In other words Come January when I buy the Family pass for which everyone in my family can use ( four of us ) except only Joanne and I will use, it will cost us $600 for the year, ( we have to buy the pass as a yearly pass) where as if Joanne and I where to buy two single rec passes at $130 per pass for 3 monts, times 2 for her and I, and pay it 4 times over the year? it would cost us $1025.00 for the year!

So you see my dilemma! It looks like I'll have to either break down and by my 3 month pass until Jan and eat the loss. or pay as I go for swims and not feel the pinch as much, but $5 per swim is still expensive! and I can run on my treadmill and bike on my trainer in my basement when the cold and snow comes. Hmmmmm!

Willem Boon from the Netherlands

My friend Willem from the Netherlands sent me this picture of him racing in an Olympic race in his home town last weekend. He pointed out how everyone is really tall!...or maybe he is short? lol. Willem is gearing up to do the 70.3 world championships in Clearwater Florida come November 14Th. He may be short, but his is definitely an Iron machine!

Muskoka 70.3 2009 (Pictures)

I've been trying to upload a short video clip, but for some reason it's not uploading and would error out? I've produced three different versions, each different in length, but it still errors out? and on the fourth try I was able to upload another with inferior picture quality, but it's missing the last 2 minutes or so of the end. Eventually I'll get it right and will post the video. For now, here are some pictures I took from Sunday's Muskoka 70.3 race day. Again I'm sorry the pictures are in reverse order.

Here I am with Lisa Bentley after she finished her race.

TATHAM, Charles Matheson (Matt)November 21, 1957 – September 12, 2009

Suddenly upon completion of the Wasaga Beach triathalon. Aged 51 years. Born in Woodstock, Ontario and a graduate of Woodstock Collegiate Institute, Matt worked in a bakery part time during high school, played football and went to the Ontario finals in wrestling. He graduated from the University of Guelph with a degree in Food Science and started his career at Marks and Spencer with responsibility for cakes and cookies.

He prospered over the next 25 years to become one of the most respected professionals in the bakery business in North America and was enjoying great success as Business Manager at Nealanders International Inc. Matt was a Masters World Champion triathlete who successfully defended his title in Copenhagen this year.

He much enjoyed his running club, triathlons, trail running and cycling. Matt was an ardent gardener and horticultural society award winner, who grew his own hops to brew his own beer. His extensive world travels included two years on a bicycle in Europe and Asia, five months on a kibbutz in Israel, as well as trips to Iceland, India, Machu Picchu, and the Pacific Coast Trail.

He also enjoyed an annual winter ski trip with his brothers that over the years covered most of the best ski destinations in western Canada. A skilled photographer, his other hobbies included audio recording, composing and performing his own music, stamp collecting, and making, flying and fighting kites.

Matt lived each and every day to the fullest. His positive nature and upbeat attitude as a self described ''student of life'' was truly inspirational to everyone who knew him.
He is survived by his companion of 24 years, John LaRocque and his parents, Sid and Marnie Tatham of Woodstock. He will be sorely missed by his 5 siblings: Robin, Paul (Nancy), Bill (Janna), Mary Ellen Rennie (Dan), and Ian (Edie) as well as his 12 nieces and nephews.

Wasaga beach Tri and CPR

The day started good. I woke up at 5am made my coffee and got my gear together. I still hadn't decided to do the tri so I said to myself, if I can fit my bike into my new car I will do the Tri a tri. Well my bike didn't fit! and I didn't want to put the bike rack on my car because I couldn't lock my bike on it while I was away from my car. If I could have fit in in the car? then I could leave my bike locked in the car while I roamed. Anyway, I said the heck with it, I'll just volley.

It takes me about 30min to drive to Wasaga beach. It was a beautiful morning, with a little chill in the morning air and mist/fog in some area's on route to the beach. When I got there there were people already buzzing around. I went to the registration tent and said, HERE I AM! I"M READY TO VOLUNTEER! and the woman there said, GREAT! She gave me a Volley t-shirt and set me up in transition to help people with questions. After things died down and the race was about to start I went down to the water exit for crowd control. I couldn't believe how calm the water was and what great weather we were getting. You know we've had a rotten summer! But this Month of September has been perfect!

After the last swimmer in the sprint race was out of the water I went up to the finish line to help out with handing out water to the racers as they had there timing chips taken off at the finish. All went smooth.

In the mean time the Olympic race was starting. After the last Sprinter finished we had about an hour to set up the finish line with more water and Hammer drinks as they were in cups.

The racers started coming in from the Olympic race and all was fine and going well, until one racer was taking a drink at the end of my table and started to lean forward and knocked the table a bit. I turned to see whats going on as I saw the table move. Then he started to slump forward and I jumped over to catch him as he was falling face first into the table. I then grabbed him as he was convulsing and laid him down while protecting his head, I then turned him on his side in the prone position as he was convulsing. In the mean time a paramedic came and checked for vitals and pulse as I was, and said there is no pulse. We turned him over on to his back where the paramedic started CPR. at the same time another person was trying to resuscitate with a manual resuscitator that covers the mouth and nose and give him air, but it seamed the airway was blocked. Then the paramedic asked me if I know CPR and to take over which I did, doing compression in 30 pump cycles the they would give air in between. Another paramedic arrived and attached the defibrillator patches while I was doing the CPR and then on the 30 cycle they shocked him. It did not start his heart up. I continued CPR and then we put him on a wood back board to get the man ( Matthew Tatham, I can state his name now as it has been published ) away from any water on the ground so they could shock him again. Then they tried again with the defibrillator and still no pulse.

At this time the ambulance arrived within 10 mins and some more paramedics arrived with one of them taking my place as I stepped aside to let the pros do there thing. They continued CPR and Matthew Tatham was lifted onto the stretcher and taking to the ambulance and taking to the local hospital.

As I looked on after Matt was taken to the hospital, I saw John Salt the race director talking with the police and a freind of Matts shedding some tears. It's nice to know how much concern he had for Matt in hopes he will survive. I know how hard John worked to keep things moving along, making sure we had room to work and getting vital information for the medics about Matt, finding out if any family or friends who knew him were around? etc.

I went back to work at the finish line after the police took my report of what happened.

After a while I had enough and the race was winding down as the Tri a Tri race was gearing up, so I went to meet my friends who where racing and having some beers at the pub along the strip. NO I didn't have any beers! I'm still staying sober. :) After a half hour or so we all went home.

As I am writing this I was watching the news to hear some news about the man. I'm sorry to say I just heard the man did not survive and was pronounced dead. :(

Sept 13, 2009...

This from the HSBC Triathlon site today http://www.hsbctriathlon.com/ms/index.cfm
Wasaga Beach September 12, 2009On Saturday September 12, 2009 Matthew Tatham completed the Olympic Distance Triathlon finishing 1st in his age group and 40th overall in a field of 294 athletes. Matt collapsed just past the finish line and while paramedics were with him immediately, he passed away 35 minutes later at Collingwood General and Marine Hospital. We want to pass on our condolences and deepest sympathies to Matt's family and friends.

Here are some pictures of the day..... Sorry again they are in reverse order.

Big race weekend all around.

Day 3 09/11/09

My back is still a little sore when I got up. Not as bad as yesterday but just enough pain that I could feel that if I did something sudden it would tweak it again. So I waddled down to the kitchen to take my meds and wait for them to kick in while I drank my coffee.

Around 11am I went out and managed a 20km ride today. My back was OK until I tried to stand up and peddle up the hills. That is when I felt some sharp little pains in the lower left side of my back, but the pain went away as I sat back down to peddle. So when I got home I decided i wouldn't do my brick run and save my back.

Tomorrow morning is the Wasaga beach Tri, I don't know yet if I'll race? I'll see when I get there depending on how my back feels. I was thinking if I do do the race, I'll do the relay instead of the sprint. All I have to do is find someone who can run for me, and I'll do the swim and bike. :)

Sunday is the Muskoka 70.3 race and I plan to go up and watch and cheers some friends doing the race. The weather looks to be good around 26C With cloud and sunny breaks. perfect!! I'll try to get pictures of the event.

Sunday is also Ironman Wisconsin So after the Muskoka race I'll rush back home to catch the action on line, as I have friends racing there to!

Wishing all racers good luck all weekend long!!

:)
